That's right. "Schoooooool's out...for summer!!!"
He was awarded Most Improved Communication Skills, Walking, and Following Directions! I swear I saw ...And Best Looking in fine print at the bottom, but that could have been a hallucination. The teachers threw a party with cake, ice cream, and Finding Nemo on the projector screen. Who LOVED the end of the school year growing up!?!? All of Davis' adventures just take me back to my childhood. Davis handed out gifts to his teachers and therapists. "Here, Ms. Wendy. This one is for you!" He was so excited.
Now we get to fill our days with pool time, playdates, and therapy sessions.

The Beach
Funny story, first. On Saturday morning, Justin, Davis, and I went to Alvin's Island to kill time before Evan woke up and the rest of the family arrived at the beach. Justin headed to the dressing room to try on a pair of swimming trunks while Davis and I walked over to the wall-o-hermit crabs. I was like, "Davis, do you want to get one?" "No," he said. "Ok, then let's go." I start walking away, thinking he's going to follow suit. I turn around and he's just standing there, frozen with fear, like he's surrounded by hungry sharks or something. "Hold me, Momma." Next thing I know, one of the hermit crabs rubs up against the side of its cage scaring the sh*t out of Davis. He screams like he's being kidnapped, jumps straight up in the air, falls onto this station of pet hermit crab accessories, slams his head on the ground, and starts FREAKING OUT. I swoop him up as Justin comes rushing over from the other side of this HUGE building (that's how loud he's screaming). I couldn't do anything to calm this kid down. Finally, I was like, "How about a toy?!?! And how about you stop flailing around in my arms." The plastic motorcycle did the trick. He's still talking about how that damn crab tried to 'pinch him'. Oh, really??? Is that what we're telling people???
The rest of the trip was a BLAST...

Got to spend lots of time with Davis' great-grandma...

Field Day and Par-lay
Preschool Style...
Who remembers E.T. Booth's 'Olympics'? This totally took me back...except I remember it being way more about socializing, talking about boys, and planning your weekend than cutting lines, telling your mom to stop taking your picture, and fighting over the blue fishing pole. But whatever.
I can't believe the school year is almost over. But I plan to really enjoy this summer with Davis since it'll be the last one I have with him as my only child! (Someone needs to remind me of this when I complain about how bored we are...)
M.J.'s birthday party over the weekend...
We're beach bound tomorrow morning!!! Can't wait!

Mother's Day Weekend
I hope all the mothers out there enjoyed their special day! I certainly did! Breakfast in bed, a sobbing-induced card from Davis, a gift certificate to a spa...what's better!?! OH! And we went to the Indian Festival/Mother's Day Pow-Wow in Canton...just to see what it was all about. Pretty neat, but not really our thing. We walked away with some handmade soaps, a toy bird whistle thing, and a half-breed indian song stuck in our head.
On a much more negative note, we were on complete house arrest this weekend (besides the Pow -Wow) with a very sick little boy. He's coughing nonstop, has a running faucet for a nose, and can barely breath. He still can't stand the breathing treatments, but they're the only thing that works...safely.
Justin managed to sneak out on Saturday and get our vegetable plants! I can't wait for some fresh tomatoes!!!

Productive Family Weekend
Since our schedule's are about to get super crazy for the next 2 months, we dedicated this weekend to each other and knocked a few things off of our honeydew list...
Saturday: T-ball, donated a ton of Davis' clothes, cleaned out the garage, gave Doc a bath, started preparing the nursery for painting (took the bed apart, taped everything off, etc)...
On Saturday night, we went to the Shrine Circus and Carnival in Marietta.
Davis' annual IEP Meeting was this morning. Another overwhelming experience. We basically reviewed all of his strengths and weaknesses, goals for the next school year, concerns, etc. But we also talked about his school schedule for next year...wow...he'll be attending pre-k from 7:45 am to 2:30 pm, 5 days a week! He'll be in a classroom with 17 other students, only 3 of which will have 'mild special needs' of some form. There will be 4 teachers in the room at all times - a normal education teacher, a special education teacher, and 2 para-professionals. He'll eat breakfast and lunch there AND take a nap! I almost fell out of my chair and started crying when I thought about him being gone that long everyday. BUT I know this is what he needs in order to prepare him for kindergarten, so I have to push my selfishness aside. It's actually going to be a really positive experience, I think. He was selected by his current teacher to be in this program and there's only a few slots available for special needs children to be in these 'normal' classes.

Davis found some fun things in one of the boxes...

Davis LOVES roller coasters, but I seriously thought this race track one was going to hurl him across the world. It went so fast around the turns.
Dadda and Davis riding the ferris wheel. This, also, terrified me...
On Sunday, we took Davis to the park and had an outdoor lunch, did some more house cleaning, and purged more of Davis' old stuff. Then, we had dinner at G.G. and Jay's house.Davis' annual IEP Meeting was this morning. Another overwhelming experience.
